Fei spent several days at Silverymoon's Vault of the Sages researching the Ring of Black Ice mentioned by Shymra, the priestess of Auril. This is what he found. In a book titled "High Enchantments of the Middle Shadowed Age," Fei finds record of a magical ring that sounds as if it might be the same item. Titled "Arundeth's Ring of Hoary Might," the ring was said to appear to be made of ice or crystal of a shadowed hue. This ring was reputed to have powerful control over ice and cold, including the ability to summon walls and spears of ice, blasts of freezing air, and the power to ward its wearer against fire. Though the crafter's name is unrecorded, the last mention of the ring dates to around -1300 DR. In addition, Fei uncovered recent tales regarding a magical ring that could be the same as the Ring of Black Ice. A few years ago, The Singing Swords Company, a group of adventurers operating out of Llorkh, were exploring ancient ruins in the Fallen Lands and found a hidden cache of powerful magic. Though their party suffered several losses to young blue dragons in the area, a few survivors made it back to Llorkh where they proudly displayed their new treasures before disappearing a few days later. One of the magical items they were showing off was a ring that radiated powerful magic and appeared to be made of black crystal. It was reported to be cursed, however, having turned one of their adventuring companions into a statue of ice when he placed the ring on his finger. During Fei's research, one of the scholars at the Vault of Sages remarked that there seems to be much interest in this Ring of Black Ice recently, because another mage was at the Vault the other week looking for the same books. The sage gave Fei a description that matches Jerren Winterbite’s, and reported that the mage mentioned that he had some business to take care of to the south. |
