The Silverwood has a long history of draconic inhabitants stretching back to the years when it was merely one arm of the vast High Forest. In those days, the Kyrix clan of green dragons prowled the northern portions of the wood and the forested southern slopes of the Nether Mountains. As the Evermoor Way was carved out of the deep woodland and the land cleared for its valuable timber, the Kyrix dragons came into increasing contact (and conflict) with the human foresters and settlers.

The dragons became aware of the wealth the humans had amassed in their nearby lands, and coveted it. In the Year of the Crimson Thorn (792 D.R.), the wyrm Elizzivore destroyed and looted the town of Vellunwood on the banks of the Rauvin. Enraged bands of adventurers flock to the surrounding woodlands seeking vengeance and the rich plunder of a dragon’s horde, slaying a number of the Kyrix dragons (but taking great losses among their number). Weakened, the dragons retreat to the deeper portions of the woods, and the Silverwood becomes separated from the High Forest. Some sages mark this point as a divergence of the Kyrix clan into eastern and western bloodlines.

The next major encounter with the dragons of the Silverwood came in 1018, the Year of the Dracorage. A great flight of dragons poured forth from the wild areas across Faerun to attach human lands and settlements. Several green dragons are slain while assaulting Silverymoon and Everlund, wreaking much damage in the process. Wyrms known to have perished in the assault against the cities include Megrilox the Wrathful, Chethrillen the Elegant, and Kazlyrr the Magewyrm. Megrilox’ consort, Rithskyllar the Forest Queen, escaped to the Silverwood, though badly wounded in the assault upon Silverymoon.

Many years she spent recovering from the grievous wounds inflicted upon her by the mages of the Lady’s College, nursing her hatred and bitterness. During these years she reportedly gave birth to several clutches of young sired by the old green Vizorip of the High Forest. Over the next 150 years, she patrolled her lands vigilantly to protect her young as they matured, effectively sealing the borders of the Silverwood to human exploration, and the forest grows ever darker, wilder, and deadlier.

In the Year of the Worm (1356 D.R.), another flight of dragons scoured the civilized lands of the North. This wave saw many of Rithskyllar’s brood slain as they attempted to demolish the city of Everlund; although almost all settlements of smaller size in the Upper Rauvin vale were obliterated, the city of Everlund withstood the attack and recovered quickly. The mages of the Lady’s College again proved decisive in Silverymoon’s defense, diverting all attacking dragons past the city and leaving it unharmed. In Shadowdale, across the Great Sand Sea, the witch Sylune of Shadowdale perished while combating an attacking great wyrm. The city of Silverymoon entered a ride of mourning for the death of Lady Alustriel’s sister.

Interestingly, Rithskyllar herself was not seen during the flight, leading some to believe that she had been overthrown as matriarch of the Silverwood by one of Vizorip’s progeny. Others say that she must be ancient dragon at this point, and could not have been deposed by her daughters, even if they had been working together. Regardless, children of Rithskyllar that are known to have participated in the assault upon Everlund include Zithiliar the Greenreaver, Clemmixuth (more widely known as Toxinfang, slain by an arrow from the bow of Ruldorn the Storm Ranger), Klorphaxius Emeraldcrown, and Vroxos the Malevolant (also slain in the assault by the powerful incantations of Vaeril Rhuidhen, current Council Elder).

It is known that Klorphaxius Emeraldcrown has sired at least two clutches of young by a green of the eastern Kyrix clan, Syriclawn, and that before her death, Clemmixuth had raised one large clutch of young to adulthood.

After examining Iax’ mounted dragon head, Dorian says that the age of the dragon and the distinctive overbite (unusual among greens) suggest that it is the blood of Zithiliar the Greenreaver, a fearsome dragon that must surely be a mature adult by now.
