Start: The town of Sandpoint, the day after the raid.

The next day, Father Zantus comes to visit the adventurers and uses his magic to heal the wounds they sustained while fighting off the goblin raiders. It quickly becomes apparent that the adventurers are local heroes - children follow them in the street, re-enacting portions of the goblin raid. There are free rounds of beer in the taverns, and girls giggle shyly as Deivon or Kiria walk past. Kiria is asked by Cyrdak Drokkus, proprieter of the Sandpoint theater, to audition for his new play. After Kiria gives an outstanding performance at the audition, Cyrdak promises to make him a star.

The party is concerned about how and why the goblin raid occured, and Signore does some research on how the goblins may have got into town without raising the alarm, though he doesn't turn up any facts. The adventurers also talk to Sheriff Hemlock to try to find out why he seems so worried, though he doesn't reveal any new information.

The next week is spent exploring the shops of Sandpoint, including the glassworks, the markets, the Two Knight brewery, and the inns of Sandpoint: the White Deer (where Gob has been staying) and the Rusty Dragon (home to Signore, Kiria, and Deivon). At the Hagfish tavern, Gob wins a pouch full of coins after drinking a cup of filthy water from an aquarium behind the bar holding a fat hagfish ("Norah"). His name is carved into the ceiling and he is cheered on by the locals, though he doesn't very good afterwards.

Gob and Deivon also investigate the Fatman's Feedbag, a tavern notorious for scoundrels and bar fights. The suspicious locals aren't very friendly, and they don't spend long. A long night of drinking also takes in Risa's Place, a quieter tavern visited by locals, and Cracktooth's tavern, a popular place for people after a performance at the Sandpoint theater. By far the most popular place for visitors to Sandpoint is the Rusty Dragon, where the attractive proprietor Ameiko Kaijitsu occasionally gives a singing performance.

At the Rusty Dragon, the adventurers meet up with Aldern Foxglove, who gives them each a pouch of money as a way of thanking them for rescuing him from certain "goblining". He also invites them on a boar hunting expedition to the Tickwood the next morning, before he returns to his townhouse in Magnimar in a few days.

After a long night of drinking, they meet Aldern the next morning at the stables where he purchases each of them a riding horse (or pony, for Gob and Signore), and it is a rather subdued journey of a few miles into the Tickwood to the east of Sandpoint. During the ride and the hunt, Aldern is quite talkative, with a seemingly endless list of stories to tell about the high life in Magnimar. He is very interested in the party, and listens to their stories of how they came to Sandpoint and fought off the goblins during the raid. He is especially admiring of Signore, and sometimes almost seems to be trying to learn how to emulate his heroics. The party encounters a medium-sized boar and kills it without trouble, and Aldern's manservants carry the beast back to the Rusty Dragon where Ameiko's staff uses it to create a delicious dish of barbeque pork.
