Start: The town of Sandpoint, on the first day of autumn.

The town of Sandpoint celebrates the first day of autumn with the Swallowtail festival, a holy day to the goddess of dreams, stars, travelers, and luck. After welcome speeches by Mayor Deverin, Sheriff Hemlock, Cyrdak Drokkus, and Father Zantus, a wagon full of swallowtail butterflies is released in a spiraling riot of color. Stalls sell food and drinks from Sandpoint's taverns, and the afternoon is filled with contests and games, stories and songs, performances and jokes.

As the sun begins to set, Father Zantus takes the podium to speak when a scream cuts through the air. Very quickly the festival turns into chaos as goblins race through the crowd, killing pets and setting things on fire. Deivon reacts quickly to cut one goblin down as it threatens a woman and her child, and Gob slays another with a well-aimed crossbow bolt. Kiria wounds a third with his rapier before Signore can come up behind and finish it off. But this group is only the first of a larger threat...
